Mission of AWICA at YorkU
The Asian Women in Commerce Association (AWICA) at York University is an academic-focused, inclusive community dedicated to empowering Asian women in commerce through education, mentorship, and collaborative learning. Our mission is to support academic excellence, professional growth, and advocacy for equity, diversity, and social justice within commerce and beyond.
We strive to:
- Support academic success through peer-led study sessions, course discussions, and collaborative problem-solving in commerce-related fields.
- Foster mentorship and leadership by connecting members with experienced peers, alumni, and industry professionals for academic and career guidance.
- Enhance learning experiences by exploring emerging trends in commerce, encouraging research, and providing academic resources.
- Develop career readiness by offering resume-building workshops, interview prep, and networking opportunities.
- Promote financial literacy through workshops on budgeting, investing, and economic decision-making.
- Encourage collaboration across commerce disciplines such as accounting, finance, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
- Advocate for diversity and social justice by addressing systemic barriers, promoting equity in academia and the workforce, and empowering Asian women to become leaders in commerce.
- Celebrate cultural identity and inclusion by fostering a safe space where members can embrace their heritage while striving for academic and professional excellence.
Through education, empowerment, and advocacy, AWICA equips its members with the knowledge, skills, and network to excel academically, champion social justice, and contribute meaningfully to the commerce community.
