About Us

We believe in an interdisciplinary, equitable, accessible, and inclusive culture of health research. The Undergraduate Health Research Exploration (UHRE) program is an initiative funded with the support of the Faculty of Health. We recognize that as health researchers, we tackle questions that fundamentally impact our communities. We believe that in order to holistically address problems in health, we must encourage as many people as possible to engage with health research. A diverse body of next-generation researchers is a key part of addressing the diverse community we serve. We believe that transformational work is done by transformational people. Each one of us carries the potential to ignite change in the way we think about health. UHRE is a student-led organization that is committed to giving as many people as possible the tools, knowledge, and wisdom for future transformational leaders in health research to pursue their ideas, and answer their burning questions! If this vision resonates with you, we invite you to participate in our engagements, and collaborate with our team! -Your UHRE Team

Members Benefits

UHRE plays a vital role in supporting undergraduates throughout their research careers, from finding, reaching out to, and successfully acquiring research positions, to developing core research skills and advancing toward independent academic inquiry. Membership in UHRE offers students the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the delivery of these supports through programs such as the Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program (URMP), the weekly Health Research Newsletter, and the Canadian Undergraduate Health Research (CUHR) Conference. Rather than being solely recipients, members are active collaborators in designing and leading these initiatives. In doing so, they gain hands-on experience in program coordination, outreach, mentorship, and communications - skills that are highly transferable and professionally valuable. UHRE further supports personal and professional development through leadership roles, collaborative projects, and engagement with faculty and community partners. Members build strong networks, gain volunteer experience, and contribute to a national movement to make health research more accessible and equitable. At its core, UHRE membership empowers students to grow as leaders, mentors, and changemakers within the health research community.
